Aluminum is not a universal chimney liner. It is limited to compatible gas equipment and is not appropriate for wood, coal, oil or most condensing appliances. Correct sizing and a complete listed connection are essential to reduce cooling, condensation and corrosion.

System options

Aluminum Chimney Liners options and specifications

The correct specification depends on the existing chimney, connected appliance, access, fuel, moisture exposure and the conditions documented during inspection.

01

Single-appliance aluminum liner

Best forOne compatible Category I gas appliance

Sized to the appliance input, connector, chimney height and applicable venting tables.

02

Common-vent aluminum liner

Best forCompatible furnace and water-heater combinations

Requires calculation for both appliances, connector configuration, total input and operating conditions.

03

Stainless upgrade

Best forHarsher condensate or durability concerns

A compatible stainless system may be proposed when aluminum is not appropriate or a more durable listed option is preferred.

What to look for

When to consider aluminum chimney liners

  • A gas appliance vents into an oversized masonry flue
  • The existing liner is corroded or disconnected
  • White residue or moisture appears near the connector
  • Draft changes when only one appliance operates
What the scope can include

A complete written scope

  1. Appliance category and input confirmation
  2. Common-vent sizing where applicable
  3. Listed liner and connector fittings
  4. Termination and draft observations
How the work moves

  • A final inspection
  • An additional magnetic sweep
  • Final drone photos when conditions and location allow
  • A complete quality-control review

Exact payment milestones, closeout steps and return visits are stated in the written contract for the selected project.

Service questions

Details worth understanding.

Final specifications depend on the inspected conditions, appliance listing, selected manufacturer and applicable local requirements.

Can aluminum vent an oil furnace or wood stove?+

No. Aluminum is limited to compatible gas applications. Oil and solid fuel require an appropriate listed venting material.

Can aluminum be used for a condensing furnace?+

Generally no. Condensing equipment requires its manufacturer-approved vent system, which is designed to handle condensate and pressure conditions.
